Summer 2009 Update
"The show we are taping is next week, August 13, at Charter One Pavilion in Chicago. We will be recording the Chicago show for a cd/dvd to be released later this fall. For that reason we would like to notify our taping community in
advance and ask that they not tape this show and, for sure, not put the show
up on the archives should it somehow get taped.
Update- in early 2003 Jason Mraz posted a new formal policy, most current version at
http://www.jasonmraz.com/TapingPolicy/MrazTapingPolicy-03.14.03.doc (requires MS Word)
linked from http://www.jasonmraz.com/tour.html
Pasted from that doc:
TAPING (Revised as of 15 March 2003)
Jason Mraz allows audio taping at almost every live performance. We feel that each show is unique and want to offer our fans the opportunity to recreate the live experience through the audio reproduction of our shows. At all taping authorized performances, tapers can tape from any ticketed seating location in the venue. Also, for many of these performances tapers are able to purchase tickets for a specially designated taper section, normally located immediately behind the soundboard. No soundboard or power feeds are provided. When Jason Mraz is not headlining a show we always defer to the taping policy of the headliner or the festival.
Taping is limited to audio-only, using only microphones. Please, no wireless receivers. We sincerely appreciate all of our fans, so we ask that you please be considerate of those around you by not obstructing anyone else's view of the performance. We do not allow still photography or video taping.
When taper tickets are available for a particular show, they are released concurrently with general seating tickets. To obtain designated taper tickets, contact the venue's box office.
All recordings must be used for personal use or trading only. Selling or commercializing any recording is illegal. Please read our Bootleg Statement for more information.
From time to time we may record some of our shows for a live album or DVD, and we may not allow taping at those shows or we may notify you that we are going to commercially release our tapes from the show at which time we will ask you to withdraw all of your tapes from that show(s) from further trading.

A notice to our fans about Bootleg Recordings:
We would like to let you know that Jason encourages the taping of his performances, but only for personal use, including trading, as outlined in the Taping Policy Statement. The resale of recordings of our concerts is a concern to us, but primarily, they are an illegal use that threaten the taping privileges. We would be extremely grateful to any of you who pass along information about commercialized bootleg recordings. We encourage you to fax us the name and locations of any retailers or distributors of bootleg CD's along with the titles and quantities in stock. We can be reached by fax at 310-858-0648 attn: Mraz Info. Thanks.

Also of note, NO TAPING is allowed for the 10/28/03 show @ The Rave, Eagles Ballroom, Milwaukee, WI with Steadman. DVD SHOOT! NO TAPING ALLOWED! Please respect the management and NOT tape this night, and if a recording does surface, DO NOT trade it. Support the artist and purchase the DVD when it comes out.
2/13/04 - Regarding MP3 supplemental versions: Bill Silva Management asked for NO mp3 versions to be allowed.
>okay, so i went ahead and called jason to make sure i had the skinny proper
>and here goes:
>1. taping is explicitly allowed. audience feeds and sbd feeds are okay.
>he's open to any and all taping.
>2. distribution is explicitly allowed on a not-for-profit basis. any and
>all distribution (internet and otherwise) is okay.
>3. if/when a live cd is to be recording, the only taping equipment allowed
>in the theatre will be his own, and etree will be notified which shows are
>to be used, so stealth shows will not be allowed to be traded. this,
>however, will not be for a while.
>4. the etree.org project is supported by the band, and jason would love to
>be added to their list of taper-friendly bands.
>okay, so that should do it. if you could send this on to them, it would be
>so that's that. jason has authorized me to send this information to
>you/them, so this should suffice as authorization from him.
>aka - jason mraz' soundman.
